The First ‘Alien: Covenant’ Trailer Is A Terrifying Holiday Treat
The first official trailer for Ridley Scott’s “Alien: Covenant” that dropped late Saturday night is a real festive treat for sci-fi fans.
“Covenant” is the sixth film in the movie franchise and takes place after 2012’s “Prometheus,” but before the events of the 1979 original film. It follows the crew of a colony ship, “bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world.”
The film stars Michael Fassbender, who is reprising his role as David the android, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, James Franco, Jussie Smollett, and Billy Crudup.
“Alien: Covenant” hits theaters May 19, 2017.

Listen to the mysterious ‘alien call’ coming from 36,000-feet below the Earth’s surface

THIS chilling sound had scientists spooked after it was heard coming from the deepest part of the ocean.
Researchers at the Hatfield Marine Science Centre were shocked to hear the wailing noise while monitoring deep-sea whale communications in the Pacific Oceans Mariana Trench.
Lasting around three seconds, the moaning noise hits super-low, and then super-high frequencies.
The experts best guess is that they picked up a never before heard whale call while monitoring the uncharted depths.

Marine experts sent a machine called a hydrophone down to the deepest part of the trench, which lies between Japan and Australia.
The hydrophone can travel through the sea for months at a time and dive up to 3,281 feet.
It’s there that it picked up the strange booming sound.
Some believe it could be a mating call from a Baleen whale.

However, the bizarre sound pattern doesn’t quite fit with what we already understand about whales.
Sharon Nieukirk, a marine bioacoustics expert at Oregon State said: If it’s a mating call, why are we getting it year round? That’s a mystery.
The sound is very distinct, with all these crazy parts she added.
The scientists hope that by publishing the noise other researchers can help identify the call so they can get to the bottom of the noise.

Illustrators get us up close with ‘Tatooine’ and other alien planets
(CNN)Robert Hurt and Tim Pyle have provided the world with stunningly photo-realistic glimpses at what gravitational waves, Earth-like exoplanets, rain storms of molten iron and even the Milky Way from above might look like if we could ever see them for ourselves. They also have the joy of illustrating when science fiction meets science fact, like planets orbiting two stars that harken back to twin suns setting on Tatooine in “Star Wars: A New Hope.”
They have been working together and turning study data into artist renderings for 12 years at the California Institute of Technology, the academic home of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Sometimes, they have only a little bit of lead time to produce the stunning images that accompany NASA’s news releases.
Without Hurt and Pyle, the images we associate with exoplanets would be a single pixel of light surrounded by the vast blackness of space.
The process to create a rendering is the same each time. Hurt and Pyle are briefed on the research and its findings so they can start coming up with an idea of how to represent it and whether it requires an illustration. Then, they hop on a conference call with the researchers to ask detailed questions and confirm what it may look like.
Sometimes, the scientists have concepts of what they would like to see. Other times, their conversation with the artists is the first time they’ve thought about their discovery visually. Together, they work out balancing the science with visual storytelling to represent an artistic hypothesis.
After Pyle and Hurt send a first draft back to the researchers, they usually make tweaks based on the feedback and pull together the final image.
Pyle mostly illustrates exoplanets, stars and asteroids, while Hurt’s specialties align with data coming from the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array, or NuSTAR, and depicting information around black holes.
Occasionally, they fight over who gets to illustrate certain findings. Other times, they argue over how best to represent it.
“Often, by the time we hash it all out, we end up with something better than if left to our own devices,” Hurt said.
Because of their backgrounds, Hurt helps explain some of the concepts from the research to Pyle. In turn, Pyle shares graphics and animation production techniques and styles with Hurt.
“I am really appreciative of how he elevates my art, and I think I’m just grateful I have this asset that artists like me don’t have,” Pyle said.
And together, Hurt and Pyle are doing what they always dreamed and eagerly awaiting the next exciting discoveries they get to illustrate.
“I’ve been delighted to have the chance to connect my personal love of science fiction to my profession of communicating the amazing science being done that is starting to connect what we know to things that we’ve only dreamed about,” Hurt said.

Alien hunters are convinced this huge apparently disc-shaped UFO crossing the moon is yet more proof of extraterrestrial life.
Mystery surrounds the object which appeared from out of the blue as the Miami Observatory in Florida streamed a feed of the lunar surface on December 3.
The dark circle-shaped shadow is captured above the moon, sparking theories from a well-known UFO enthusiast that it is a craft created by an intelligent species.
Scott C. Waring, from UFOsightingsdaily.com, said: “It’s not a man-made object, because there are not solar panel wings on it to gather energy.
“There are no antennas on it for transmitting, also the surface is not completely round, but has a rough edge to it.
“Looks like a bio-mechanically grown UFO.”
One poster on YouTube refuted claims that it was an alien spaceship or even an object.
They said: “After studying it is NOT an object.
“I have come to these conclusions after multiple re-plays effected, I have seen that it does not maintain the form.
“For me it is the outskirts of a shadow. If this is so it is very possible that the object crossed between the Moon and the Sun projecting the shadow.”
Another user said: “Peekaboo UFO, they know we are watching.”
This is not the first, and certainly won’t be the last lunar-related UFO sighting or claims of an ‘alien base’ on the grey planet.
It was claimed last month that an M-shaped structure in NASA satellite photos is a base for extraterrestrials, while another weird object spotted in imagery from the space agency was dubbed an ‘alien antenna’ .
Footage also emerged recently of a mysterious UFO hurtling past the International Space Station as it orbits Earth seconds before the live feed cuts out.

‘It was not from this world’: Witness to ‘Britain’s Roswell’ UFO incident breaks 36-year silence

A new witness has broken his 36 -year silence to speak out about Britains most famous UFO incident.
Steve Longero was told to keep quiet by his superiors following the infamous Rendlesham Forest incident in Suffolk.
But now the retired U.S. Air Force police officer has gone on the record for the first time and said: I think it was something not from this world.
The incident dubbed the British Roswell took place over three nights between 26 and 28 December, in 1980.
Military personnel from nearby RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge, including the deputy base commander, witnessed strange lights in the forest and hovering above the twin NATO airbases which were on high alert as the Cold War was at its peak.

Steve, who served as a police sergeant in the USAF, was guarding the weapons storage area when the alarms started going off.
He said: While on duty that night, we had a very sophisticated alarm system and everything just went off.
And then I could see these lights over the treetops, and I was thinking, whats going on? Then they started sending people out there and at first it was hard to believe, all these bright lights. It was hard to take in.
“Well from what I remember the lights, fluorescent lights, kind of a glow, like a reddish glow. I remember going out there.
Steve went out into the forest where he remembers seeing a large group of other military personnel had already gathered including Staff Sgt Jim Burroughs, Airman First Class Edward Cabansag and Airman First Class Larry Warren.
Describing the UFOs, he said: They looked like fluorescent coloured lights, like red and green, glowing lights and thats what they looked like.I could see them hovering over the treetops like an eye that was almost following everybody.

He added: It was real kind of quiet and this thing hovering over the trees, and you were like kind of tracking it and like what is this?. And it was like following, it was like watching us, thats what it looked like to us. It seemed like something watching us.
From what I remember it was like aglow, it was really glowing like a reddish, greenish light. It was really glowing, like something was really hot and it was just glowing.
He also recalled seeing Colonel Charles Halt there, who made a tape recording describing how beams of light were being shone down by the UFO. He has written an explosive new book called The Halt Perspective describing his close encounter.
Mr Longero said: Col Halt came afterwards, after all that was called in. I remember him turning up, thats when they kind of gathered everyone around and said this is what we are going to do, and everybody kind of dispersed and did what they were told to do.
“I remember we had a little briefing right there and everybody was just like, we just could not believe what we were seeing. Your adrenalin was flowing and I remember people saying like what is that?.

Rubbishing theories that the lights in the woods were caused by a lighthouse on the east coast, he laughed: I dont think so. Not unless the lighthouse could move. Unless they could float that thing in the air.
And then, as people were getting close to this thing it kind of came nearer to us and then it would go forward and then go back and all of a sudden it just disappeared, like something out of Star Trek, it was like warp speed and we were all what was that? it was gone and then thats when they started doing all their investigations. After we secured the area they said okay, youre gone, get out of here.
Steve said he was debriefed a few days later and was told not to talk about what he saw as the base had nuclear weapons on site.
UFO investigator Philip Mantle, who interviewed Steve for Outer Limits Magazine, said: Steve does not claim to be anything special but he wanted to emphasise that there were a lot of others involved who were witness to the events in question, many of whom have yet to add their voice to these events.
Steve has confirmed the open secret that nuclear weapons were stored at RAF Bentwaters at the time although he did not personally witness any lights being shone onto the WSA.

What is clear is that despite the best efforts of some this case will continue to be hotly debated for many years to come.

Alien life is behind the mysteries of the universe, according to a radical new theory.
Ancient non-human lifeforms morphed into the physical world and are the driving force behind mind-boggling quantum physics and phenomena like dark matter, according to a Columbia University astrophysicist.
The expert says our universe is the remains of intelligent alien life which controls all aspects of the physical world from gravity to the speed of light.
The theory helps to explain the great mysteries of the cosmos and also answers why we are yet to find intelligent life beyond our planet, Professor Caleb Scharf says.

A six-minute YouTube conspiracy film by UFOmania has resurfaced this week examining her story. It has been viewed nearly a million times.
In 1993, esteemed scientist Claudie was a backup crew member for the 1993 Mir Altaïr mission, which included her future husband, Jean-Pierre Haigneré.
She made it to the Mir space station in 1996 as part of the Russian-French Cassiopée mission, and in 2001 became the first European woman to visit the International Space Station.
The asteroid 135268 Haigneré is named after Claudie and her husband.
After retiring from space work, Claudie entered French politics and worked as minister delegate for research and new technologies from 2002 to 2004 and minister delegate for European affairs from 2004 to 2005.
But, despite her efforts, budgets for scientific research were cut.

Thats where the story gets strange.
In December 2008, it was widely reported that Claudie had to be rushed to a hospital after allegedly taking an overdose of sleeping pills.
It was reported that she was found conscious but had to be restrained while screaming, Earth must be warned! before lapsing into a coma.
Claudie blamed the incident on burnout syndrome and is now the director of the Cité des Sciences et de lIndustrie the largest science museum in Europe.
However, alien enthusiasts believe she was trying to warn the Earth about life in outer space.
The YouTube video, which is narrated by a robot voice, is a conspiracy that blends fact and fiction.
Claudie did attempt suicide in 2008, but the rest appears to be made up and continuously reappears on conspiracy forums, such as David Ickes website.
The video says: She had to be forcefully restrained after screaming Earth must be warned!
More ominously, her laboratory where she worked at the forefront of human/alien DNA research was destroyed by fire.
The video uses quotes from real reports by news agency AFP, but theyre taken out of context, with additional information.
There is no such thing as human/alien DNA research because we have never encountered any aliens.
Claudies story often pops up when something happens to a prominent UFO expert.
The mysterious death of conspiracy theorist Max Spiers in October may have triggered the latest interest.
Spiers was found dead on a sofa at a friends house in Poland days after warning his mother to investigate if anything happened to him. Friends also claim he had vomited a black liquid before his death.

2 Injured After Commercial Airliner Forced To Evade ‘UFO’
Two people suffered minor injuries after an aircraft swerved to avoid a “UFO” in the skies over Lake Ontario on Monday.
The Porter Airlines Dash 8 aircraft, which was carrying 54 passengers, encountered the object at about 9,000 feet as it descended into the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.
“The pilots noticed an object in the distance (and) as they approached the object, they realized it was very close to their flight path,” Porter Airlines said in a statement, according to the Canadian Press.
At first the pilots thought it was a balloon. However, after debriefing, they said the object could have been a drone.
“Nobody knows at this point. It happened so quick,” Peter Rowntree, senior regional investigator with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, told The Star. “It definitely wasn’t a bird. It was a fairly large object.”
Two flight attendants were taken to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries, the CBC reported.
The Canadian government is now working to pass new rules to regulate the growing number of drones, and possibly help prevent incidents such as this one.
There have been a number of close calls between aircraft and drones around the world, especially near airports. Earlier this year, a British Airways jet struck a drone while approaching London’s Heathrow Airport. No one was injured in that incident.

‘Arrival’ takes alien landing plot in cerebral direction
(CNN)“Arrival” takes an age-old science fiction premise — Aliens have landed; what are their intentions? — and builds a taut mystery around it. Yet those expecting a whiz-bang film should be prepared for a more cerebral and emotional experience, admirable for its ambition and tone, if not wholly satisfying in its payoff.
Screen exploration of extraterrestrial visitors tends to go in one of two directions — the benevolent sort (see Steven Spielberg’s “E.T.” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”) or the bent-on-our-destruction variety (“War of the Worlds,” “Independence Day,” that “Twilight Zone” episode “To Serve Man”).
Based on a short story adapted by French-Canadian director Denis Villeneuve (“Sicario”) and writer Eric Heisserer, “Arrival” owes a particular debt to that last title, as well as the 1997 film “Contact.” That’s because much of the tension stems from efforts to communicate with the aliens — who suddenly arrive in 12 giant vessels, scattered across the globe — and ascertain their purpose by translating the indecipherable sounds they issue.
Toward that end, the U.S. government enlists Louise (Amy Adams), a brilliant linguistics professor/translator, along with a theoretical physicist, Ian (Jeremy Renner). Their investigation unfolds against a backdrop of geopolitical chaos and mistrust, as panic mounts over the aliens’ motivations and other countries become jittery about the hovering ships in their backyards.
“Are they scientists, or tourists?” it’s asked early on, which doesn’t address the concern as more clues emerge that “invaders” might be a third option.
That real-world-rooted sense of unease (which frankly might play a bit differently with audiences in the wake of the U.S. election) prompts the military, embodied by some pretty stock characters portrayed by Forest Whitaker and Michael Stuhlbarg, to become increasingly antsy. China, in particular, threatens the initial call for a coordinated and harmonious international response.
The scientists, not surprisingly, strike a more curious and diplomatic posture, as they work against a deadline that labors a bit in the film’s later permutations. The cracks in the macro part of the story are largely offset by Louise’s personal one — and Adams’ wide-eyed, emotionally vulnerable performance — which challenges audience expectations in a surprisingly understated, thought-provoking way.
The aliens themselves, and the strange look and dynamics of their spacecraft, are marvelously otherworldly, in a way depictions of such intergalactic travelers often aren’t. Unlike many strange visitors from other planets, these clearly aren’t designed to produce a line of plush toys.
Commercially speaking, “Arrival” hovers in its own somewhat awkward airspace. It’s entertaining and reasonably suspenseful, but other than perhaps Adams, a long shot for awards consideration, while not exciting enough for those seeking blockbuster escapism.
Ultimately, Villeneuve has engaged in a bit of sleight of hand, using what can be sold as a science-fiction premise to probe questions regarding our priorities — and humanity. At a time when so many movies settle for visceral thrills, that alone makes “Arrival” feel like a rather bold adventure.
“Arrival” opens November 11 in the U.S. It’s rated PG-13.

Investigator Claims ‘Ufo Wreckage’ Is Evidence Aliens Visited The Earth 250,000 Years Ago
The discovery of an ancient piece of aluminium is being hailed as evidence that aliens visited Earth 250,000 years ago.
The mysterious hunk of metal was found in Romania during the 1970s, when the country was under communist rule.
Now tests at a lab in Lausanne, Switzerland, have revealed that the strange fragment of metal is made up of 90 percent aluminium and is 250,000 years old.
Aluminium was not produced by mankind until about 200 years ago, so the discovery of the large chunk that could be up to 250,000 years old is being held up as a sensational find.
Gheorghe Cohal, the Deputy Director of the Romanian Ufologists Association, told local media: “Lab tests concluded it is an old UFO fragment given that the substances it comprises cannot be combined with technology available on Earth.”
Builders working on the shores of the Mures River not far from the central Romanian town of Aiud found the objects about 33 feet under the ground, where it was buried alongside two bones.
It was quickly determined that the two large bones belonged to a large extinct mammal that died between 10,000 and 80,000 years ago, but experts were stunned to find out that the third object was a piece of very lightweight metal and appeared to have been manufactured.
However, local historian Mihai Wittenberger said the object is actually a metal piece from a World War II German aircraft, although this does not explain the age of the artifact.
The metal object has now gone on display in the History Museum of Cluj-Napoca with its full history causing heated speculation after it was noted that museum officials had added a sign saying: “origin still unknown.”

British UFO investigator found dead after ‘vomiting black liquid,’ sending chilling text message to mother

A conspiracy theorist has been found dead in Polandjust days after he texted his mum instructing her to investigate should anything happen to him.
Max Spiers, a 39-year-old father of two, was found dead on a sofa in Poland, where he had gone to give a talk about conspiracy theories and UFOs. He was ruled to have died from natural causes despite no post-mortem examination being carried out on his body.
But his dark investigations into UFOs and government cover-ups may have made him enemies who wanted him dead, says mother Vanessa Bates, 63. In a chilling text message to his mum just days before his death, Max wrote: Your boys in trouble. If anything happens to me, investigate.

Originally from Canterbury, Max was a former classmate of Orlando Bloom. He lived in the United States for a few years, but had returned to the city to stay with his mother, before jetting off to Poland.Vanessa said: He was making a name for himself in the world of conspiracy theorists, and had been invited to speak at a conference in Poland in July.

Blink-182 singer contacted Hillary Clinton’s campaign chief to talk UFOs
The latest WikiLeaks email dump contains notes sent by Tom DeLonge to John Podesta, discussing extraterrestrial life
There are some things you might have expected to learn from the hacking of the Clinton campaign and Democratic party emails party strategies, for example, and political indiscretions. And there are some things you probably wouldnt have expected to discover such as the fact that one of Americas most successful pop-punk singers had emailed the chairman of Clintons campaign about their mutual interest in UFOs.
The latest batch of emails posted by WikiLeaks reveal that former Blink-182 frontman Tom DeLonge had been emailing John Podesta, the chair of the campaign, about their mutual interest in life beyond this planet and UFOs. Podesta a former chief of staff for former president Bill Clinton and counsellor to Barack Obama has long been public about his belief the government should declassify information it holds about extraterrestrial life.
In 2015, DeLonge wrote to Podesta saying he wanted to introduce him to two very important people to discuss their shared interest. I think you will find them very interesting, as they were principal leadership relating to our sensitive topic, he wrote. Both were in charge of most fragile divisions, as it relates to classified science and DOD [Department of Defence] topics. In other words, these are A-Level officials. Worth our time, and as well the investment to bring all the way out to you.
In another email, sent this year, he tells Podesta he has been in touch with a former official involved in the Roswell incident in which, it is claimed, the US government covered up the its recovery of an alien ship in New Mexico in 1947. The government said it was a weather balloon. DeLonge said he had been in discussions with Maj Gen William McCasland, who had a long career in the US air force, specialising in matters pertaining to space. He mentioned hes a skeptic, hes not He just has to say that out loud, but he is very, very aware as he was in charge of all of the stuff, DeLonge wrote. When Roswell crashed, they shipped it to the laboratory at Wright Patterson air force base. Gen McCasland was in charge of that exact laboratory up to a couple years ago.
It is unclear whether Podesto replied to the emails. However, his inbox contained one acceptance of an invitation to an event called DeLonge/Podesta meeting. The acceptance came from from Susan McCasland Wilkerson, who appears to be a former astronaut candidate. It is unclear whether she is related to William McCasland.

China’s giant space telescope starts search for alien life
Hong Kong (CNN)The search for alien life just got bigger. A lot bigger.
The world’s largest telescope will be completed this week in China and it has scientists very, very excited.
With a whopping 1,640 feet (500 meter) wide dish the size of 30 football fields, the telescope will able to detect radio signals — and potentially signs of life — from distant planets.
“China’s latest telescope will be able to look faster and further than past searches for extraterrestrial intelligence,” says Douglas Vakoch, president of METI International, an organization dedicated to detecting alien intelligence.
Cradled in a karst hollow in the mountainous landscape of southwest China, the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope, or FAST, starts operation September 25.
It’s a process known by astronomers as “first light” — when a telescope opens its eyes and takes its first pictures of the universe.
And FAST is wide eyed: its field of vision is almost twice as big as the Arecibo telescope in Puerto Rico that has been the world’s biggest single aperture telescope for the past 53 years.
Russia’s RATAN-600 telescope is larger than FAST by diameter with panels arranged in a 576 meter wide ring — but it’s not one single dish and its collection area is much smaller than FAST and Arecibo.
Decade to find right location
Construction of the $185 million mega project began in 2011, with the last of the 4,450 triangular panels that form the dish painstakingly lowered into place in July this year.
While the structure itself is too big to move, each of the panels can be adjusted.
“You can control the surface to point at certain points in the sky. A mesh of steel ropes allows a hydraulic push and pull mechanism,” says Andreas Wicenec, professor of Data Intensive Research at the International Center for Radio Astronomy Research in Australia.
Its remote location in China’s Guizhou province was one of 400 places scientists surveyed over 10 years. The egg-cup shaped valley is perfectly sized and the surrounding mountains provide a shield against radio frequency interference.
It was once home to “Green Water Village” a remote settlement of 12 families that had no electricity. The 65 villagers are among 9,110 that authorities uprooted in order to help improve the telescope’s listening capabilities.
“I never thought the first time I would move would be to make way for a telescope,” former villager Yang Chaolan, 62 told Xinhua, China’s official news agency.
Her son plans to open a restaurant in the town they have been relocated to in the hope the feat of engineering will bring tourists to the poor region.
But for many people, the most exciting goal is the search for extraterrestrial life.
The recent discovery of three life-friendly planets outside our solar system has rekindled discussion of whether intelligent life is unique to Earth.
FAST’s sensitivity will be capable of detecting exoplanets like these in ways that other telescopes cannot.
“FAST’s potential to discover an alien civilization will be five to 10 (times) that of current equipment, as it can see farther and darker planets,” Peng Bo, director of the NAO Radio Astronomy Technology Laboratory, told Xinhua.
Ambitions space program
FAST also underpins China’s bold space program, which is kicking into high gear.
Last week, Beijing launched the Tiangong-2 space lab — a precursor to a 20 ton space station. It’s also set for its longest crewed mission in October aboard the Shenzhou-11 spacecraft.
Longer term goals include putting a man on the moon and sending a robotic probe to Mars.
The telescope could help track some of these missions, says Wicenec.
However, there are limitations on what the telescope can do. It’s unable to project the trajectories of comets or asteroids for example.
“FAST may help explain the origin of the universe and the structure of the cosmos, but it won’t provide warning of Earth-bound asteroids that could destroy human civilization,” says Vakoch.
China has long been secretive about its military-linked space program, but the scientists CNN spoke to for this piece expected Beijing to be open to international cooperation.
Chinese astronomers are expected to receive priority on the telescope for the two to three years and then it will be opened to scientists worldwide.
“It’s a prestige project but astronomy is very international. China is no exception,” says Wicenec.

London (CNN)“It’s a small world but I wouldn’t want to have to paint it,” American comic Steven Wright often quipped.
Some though have turned that on its head to bring us visions of landscapes beyond Earth — including the ones we haven’t even discovered yet.
What do geysers on Europa look like? Or the far distant exoplanets that are now being found? And what about the wonderful worlds that science fiction writers dream up?
Three artists whose job it is to imagine the unseen have given CNN a glimpse of how they are inspired.
MARK GARLICK
Mark Garlick, an astronomer who carried out research on binary stars, has written and illustrated books on the solar system and beyond. But he sometimes takes ideas from here on Earth.
Flynn has painted book covers for science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke and got to know the author.
“He was very interested in Mars. It was a big passion of his. He really dearly hoped there was something there… total proof of life in the universe or even our own solar system.”
Perhaps the reality will be stranger than fiction.
